SCENOGRAPHY

BRIEF

STARTING WITH THE THEMES OF EXPO 2015, I FOCUSED ON THE PROBLEM OF WASTE, NUTRITION EDUCATION AND INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION. I THOUGHT THE WORST PROBLEM WAS HOW FOOD HAD LOST ITS VALUE.

IN RELATION TO NIHILISM, NIETZSCHE IN “THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA”, GAVE SOME METAPHORS. THE CAMEL, REPRESENTS A KIND OF HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE THAT REPRESSES AND WEAKENS THE POWER AND STRENGTH OF THE INSTINCT OF FREEDOM. SECONDLY, THE  GURE OF THE LION IS THE KING OF BEASTS WHO INSTINCTIVELY SAYS NO. FINALLY, THE CHILD IS A SYMBOL OF PURITY AND CREATIVITY. PROPHET AND INTERPRETER OF THIS NEW ERA WILL THEREFORE NO LONGER MAN, BUT A KIND OF MYTHICAL BODY CHOSEN AS THE SUPER-HUMAN (ÜBERMENSCH), ABLE TO TAKE UPON HIMSELF THE PROFOUND SENSE OF NIHILISM AND OVERCOME IT, MAKING THE AUTHOR AND CREATOR OF NEW VALUES.

CAMEL

THE SCENOGRAPHY CONSISTS OF FOUR AREAS, WHERE THE VISITOR WILL EXPERIENCE DIFFERENT SEN- SATIONS.THE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH THE PHASE OF THE CAMEL,A LONG DARK CORRIDOR THAT BECOMES NARROWER; THE SAND ON THE FLOOR SYMBOLIZES FATIGUE AND THE VIDEOS ON THE WALLS OF THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO FOOD CHARACTERISE THIS SCENE.

LION

THE SECOND PHASE STARTS AT THE END OF THE CAMEL. THE CORRIDORS SEPARATE AND OUR INSTINCTS ARE STIMULATED ,

THE SAME INSTINCTS OF THE LION. INSIDE THIS AREA THE VISITOR WILL BE ATTRACTED BY THE CHANGE OF ILLUMINATION FROM DARKNESS TO A VERY BRIGHT LIGHT ; AND THE CUTS ON THE WALLS AND BILLBOARDS REPRE- SENT THE AGGRESSIVENESS AND THE SELF-ASSURANCE OF THE LION.

CHILD

THEN YOU COME TO THE THIRD PHASE, A SURREAL PARADISE; A COMPLETELY WHITE AND BRIGHT AREA WITH WINDING FORMS WHERE YOU ARE FREE TO MOVE. THE PART THAT CHARACTERISES THIS SCENE IS THE LARGE STAIRCASE WHERE YOU CAN CLIMB TO THE TOP AND OBSERVE THE WONDERS OF THE VEGETABLE GARDEN AND OF NATURE. HERE THE VISITOR WILL BECOME THE “SUPER-HUMAN” AND WILL BE ABLE TO BRING NEW VALUES TO EARTH.

ÜBERMENSCH

AFTER CROSSING THE GARDEN YOU WILL REACH THE LAST PHASE, WHERE YOU CAN RELAX WITH NATURE AND REFLECT ON THE SET DESIGN.
